echofy Who We Are

About SUPARCO

Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), as the National Space Agency, leverages advanced space technology and satellite imagery to address the pressing challenges of climate change. Through our dedicated Space Applications for Climate Change initiative, we employ cutting-edge remote sensing technologies, hyperspectral imaging, and geospatial data analytics to monitor environmental changes, mitigate disaster risks, and support sustainable development across Pakistan.
The Center monitors critical areas including forest ecosystems, coastal dynamics, glacial changes, inland waterways, and land-use patterns, providing policymakers, researchers, and communities with vital information for climate adaptation strategies.

“At SUPARCO, we believe that space technology plays a transformative role in understanding and combating climate change. Through our fleet of Earth observation satellites, including our recently launched Hyperspectral Satellite (HS-1), PRSS-1, and PakTES-1A, we provide high-resolution, near real-time data essential for evidence-based decision-making.”

— Chairman, SUPARCO

SOx,NOx and Aerosols

SUPARCO’s aerosol monitoring integrates multispectral and hyperspectral satellite retrievals (polar-orbiting and geostationary), atmospheric models and surface observations to produce operational products: AOD maps (high to moderate spatial resolution), surface PM2.5 proxies, aerosol-type classification (dust, smoke, urban/industrial), plume extent, and hotspot detection. Products are delivered with daily or subdaily cadence depending on the sensor and are available through the portal, APIs and packaged downloads for operational users. Each product includes basic quality flags and automated validation against ground networks so they can be used for dust alerts, urban air-quality bulletins, agricultural advisories, and research on aerosol climate interactions.
